Ileana Makri was born and lives in Greece. She travels a lot and spends long periods in London, Paris and New York, cities she has previously lived in.
Graduating with a degree in Business Administration Ileana went on to study jewellery design at the G.I.A. (Gemological Institute of America in Santa Monica).
Mageia her flagship store opened in 1987 and has always been a reflection of Ileana’s world and interests, introducing items that capture her imagination, from clothing and accessories to artwork and of course jewellery - her real passion. Mageia (Greek for enchantment or magic) soon became a staple for those Athenians eager to find hand crafted and unique goods sourced during her extensive travels.
In 1996 the first Ileana Makri signature jewelry line was introduced in her store as well as instantly being picked up by Barneys in the U.S. Friends and family quickly spread the word, and ensured her first clientele and many more faithful customers followed. Presently there are two stores in Athens and one in Mykonos.
In just over a decade Ileana Makri has captured the attention of high profile clients such as Uma Thurman, Jennifer Lopez, Heidi Klum, Lenny Kravitz, Faith Hill, Rita Wilson, Ashley Olsen, Courtney Cox, Debra Messing.
